Dramatic Digital Frame: Meural

Digital picture frames. All our grandma’s had them to display pictures of all the grandkids, right? Well, a company called Meural reached out to me wanting to send me one of their digital canvas frames. And it’s way cooler than the ones I’ve seen before. I’ll show you how I’ve incorporated mine into my decor and then I’ll share my final thoughts on it.

Dramatic Digital Canvas

I’ve promised you my thoughts. I’ve had the frame for a few weeks now and here’s what I’ve experiences. The hanging hardware isn’t my favorite. The anchors are metal but the lip that presses into the wall is flimsy and both of mine cracked. I ended up using my own anchors. Also, as I mentioned in the video, the plug is very large. So make sure you aren’t plugging it into a tight space. I appreciate that the cord is fabric covered but I still don’t like looking at it. I think I’ll invest in a cover for it.

The selection of albums to choose from is massive. But as far as I’ve been able to figure out, you can’t pick and choose photos from different albums to display in your own order. I played on the app and website and couldn’t figure that out. Some albums had one or two photos that I loved but the rest just weren’t vibing for me. I wasn’t satisfied with my conclusion on this so I checked again (I promise I tried to figure this out multiple times), and I figured it out. Create a playlist in the menu to the left and then when you’re viewing individual pieces, click on the “plus sign” to add it to the playlist you created. I did find a couple albums full of photos I love displaying and I love that it can be set to change automatically on a timer. So there’s basically a new photo every time I come into the room.

Is it worth the money? I think that’ll depend on the person. I’ve got art prints in my home much more expensive than this. And those are just prints. If you’re a person that values versatility and enjoys the digital age, absolutely worth the money.

Should you find yourself interested in purchasing one of these digital canvases, you can use code “ADESIGNERATHOME” and it will take $50 off the purchase price 🙂 And you can purchase one here.

Hallway Update Inspiration

March 1, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

So I told you guys a while back that I had been working on some updates to the hallway I’d made over for the New Year New Room Refresh Challenge last year and everything kept getting put aside and half done. Now, today, the $100 Room Makeover Challenge starts and I’m pumped. This is the perfect kick in the butt to get the space finished.

Firstly, the white walls have to go. They are constantly getting scuffed and dinged and, let’s be real, colored on because my 4.5 year old is relentless. I love the look of crisp white walls but I hate dirty looking walls more. I’d like to find a muted, sophisticated pastel color. I’m leaning towards coral and aqua for the color scheme because the runner rug is copper and green. And the reason I mention two colors is because I want to paint the doors, too. And Maybeee I’ll do two tone. Or maybe I’ll do monotone. I’m not committed either way yet.

Then I’ve got to seriously address the unbalanced distribution of light. One end is fairly well lit and the other is dark. I won’t be running new electrical or anything like that but there is an outlet right where I need a second light so I think a plugin light will do perfectly.

I’ll be reusing artwork. There’s really no need to spend any money there.

The door knobs are up in the air. If there’s budget to replace them, I’ll do that. Last year I spray painted the original brass with oil rubbed bronze spray paint and it’s gone horribly wrong. The paint is dinged up and completely come off of large areas of frequently used doors.

Here are some spaces I’ve pinned to my entrances and hallways Pinterest board that are majorly inspiring me with this makeover.

First and foremost, these doors, the embellishment and the color have me like-yes yes yes! I do think the budget prohibits adding any medallions to the doors (especially since there’s a whopping 7 of them!) but I’m going to keep the idea tucked away and hope I can make it happen.

There’s hardly a space with a juju hat that I don’t adore, but beyond that I love the rug as a focus, the interesting light fixture and a console table to display decor and make the space feel less sterile and more part of the home.

And one more pin that’s triggering some ideas for me is this one. It’s definitely not the style I’m after but I’m wondering if I can find something similar in a moroccan style shape. That would be very cool for the beginning of the hallway to separate it from the living room.

COPPER MINT AND GREEN GLOBAL ETHNIC INSPIRED HALLWAY MAKEOVER

To stretch the budget, I’m going to buy a second of the same inexpensive light that’s in the hallway. I’m comfortable enough in my rewiring skills and I have professionals to consult about turning it into a plugin.

I have a lot of craft and DIY supplies and I think I’m going to attempt a DIY that will have the same feel as the bone inlay table in my moodboard.

I already own the runner featured and will continue to use it because I love it! If you love it, too, it’s actually crazy inexpensive 🙂

The paint colors I will begin with checking out are Leisure Green and Peach Blossom by Benjamin Moore.

The framed art print is from Minted.

Best part of this makeover? There’s a whole bunch of people making over spaces with just $100. Browse the spaces below and make sure to come back and tell me which ones you’ll be following along with.

Mediterranean Influenced Bohemian Bathroom Remodel

February 28, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

I’m officially calling this space complete.

I’ll have photos of the space ASAP! My phone and camera are both busted. Come back soon for the reveal!

Tile

The tile on the wall of our tub goes all the way up to the ceiling because I just love that look. It’s inspired by tiles and shapes found in moroccan architecture and is appropriately called Marrakech Ceramic Mosaic Tile and it’s by Jeffrey Court, available at Home Depot. It’s a gorgeous tile and I love that the edges are raised for an especially unique look. Our contractor had a tiler that wasn’t as experienced as we really needed for such an intricate tile. So the work isn’t perfect and that shows with the dark grout we went with. In the future when time and budget allows, I’d like to regrout and go with a nice, crisp coordinating white. In the alcove is Archivo Fleur De Lis Ceramic Floor and Wall Tile by Merola. There’s a lot more terracotta “aging” look to these than I’d anticipated from photos and it wasn’t available to view in store. When time and money permits, I think I’ll swap this out with a white tile with white grout. Time and money, always need more of both right? Ha. And then the floor tile

Shelving

I chose to go simple with the shelves. Spray painted IKEA shelving brackets with inexpensive common board lumber from The Home Depot gave me shelves to put pretties and storage onto.

eef&tsbt: Modern Boho Art Prints

February 27, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

To add a retro art deco feel to your bohemian home, an easy art solution is modern style art prints. I first discovered these prints through Instagram. A few of my friends had shared styled photos with the MotivatedArt prints and I was hooked on the hip vibe they have. I’ve played around with 4 of them in person now and I have a second set of 4 I want to share with you just to give you more ideas on how versatile and complimentary the prints are. MotivatedArt on Etsy provided me with the prints in exchange for sharing them. The styling and thoughts are all my own though.

I hated that the way the light shines through this room makes the frames constantly look crooked no matter how leveled they are. So I looked around for other places to put them and I ended up splitting the quad and put one on my newly installed bathroom shelves.

I've been working on getting various shelves up in the bathroom all day and as a result I missed seeing that there's 25 thousand boho babes here! Thank you for validating my journey and thank you for sharing yours with me through #showmeyourboho. I have been collecting things for a while now to do a giveaway. Keep an eye out for that this week!

And because I realize showing you only vertical prints does those of you looking for horizontal prints no good, here are 4 favorites I picked to share with you. Perfect as a quad or split them up for a cohesive art story around a room or even your house. Or display just one of 30, you do you boo.

How I Organize My Bathroom

February 21, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Renovating a bathroom is a lot of fun. But when the process is over and you’re actually living in it, that’s when you truly discover what kinds of things make your bathroom work for you. For me, discovering our best storage and organizational needs took some time. I teetered back and forth on some solutions I’d thought up. But, for quite a while now things have been unchanged. Now that our bathroom functions well for us, I thought I’d share just how I organize my bathroom to give you some ideas to try for yours.

If you’ve got any good bathroom storage tips, be sure to leave them in the comments below. I’m always looking for new things to try to make living life as enjoyable as possible.

Vintage Rug to Bath Rugs

February 20, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

One relatively small problem I’ve been putting off solving is that the gorgeous vintage rug I’ve been using in my bathroom in slightly too wide. And doesn’t provide any rug coverage by the toilet. But it’s so perfect in the space. It’s the perfect amount of depth to ground the brightness of the vanity.

But it’s too wide.

Do I cut it? Is that some big offense in the world of design? In the world of vintage rugs? In the world of this rug is freaking fabulous and I don’t want to get rid of it ever but this is the one room it has to be in.

If I don’t cut it, it stays a trip hazard and I still have no rug by the toilet. Which isn’t exactly a must but it’s nice not putting cold feet on cold floor while taking care of those things.

I could get a different vanity. But my husband would kill me. We don’t have the money for a different vanity. And at 18 inches, this is pretty much the smallest depth you can find. Also could go wall mounted, but again, money.

It wouldn’t cost me anything to cut the rugs. Except maybe my self respect.

I took a look at the rugs. It looked like it could be cut without the whole thing unraveling. It wasn’t woven.

I grabbed my supplies:

Sharp Scissors

Liquid Stitch

How To Cut A Vintage Rug Into Bath Rug Shapes

I first folded the rug into the length I’d need for the toilet rug to see if I’d even have enough to do both rugs. It left plenty.

So I took my sharp scissors (Fiskars brand is my favorite when I need a pair of sharp and strong scissors), found a line to follow, held my breath and cut. And I had two pieces of rug.

Cutting the shape around the toilet base was a tad tricky. I first found the points that would sit on the sides of the toilet and the point that would meet the front and cut a “V” from each of those three points. I then felt around the base of the toilet for the point in between each line of the “V” to a broader “V.”

toilet

Hopefully that makes sense with the drawing.

And it looks a little something like this.

The other rug was simpler to cut since it was just a smaller rectangle to fit in the space.

I sealed the edges with the liquid stitches, allowed it to dry and…

If you hate it, I’m really sorry! There’s probably a group of people out there who feel the same way about this as I do about painting good wood furniture. But everything fits now! I’m really happy with it and if you’ve wondered if it can be done, I’ve done it!

Simple Minty Eye Makeup Look (Indigenous Beauty Brands)

As much as I loathe dealing with fallout atop base makeup, I still always start with base makeup. But lucky for me, there’s no powder products going on my eyes today. Despite being a simpler makeup look, there’s still a lot of drama going on. A sharp cat eye winged liner elevates the eyes. And […]
