For this week’s Thrift Score Thursday, I’m taking a trip down memory lane. Because sometimes I do a lot of thrifting at once and I forget to share the finds with you sweet friends.

The first is a set of sconces. The look like wood with a really cool woven detail, but they’re plastic. I picked them up and put them down multiple times before I finally took them to the register. I have a thing for sconces and excuses to pull out more cacti candles.

And this wall was still looking pretty lonely. I can’t remember if I ever shared that piece of art. Beautiful wood frame and a print of a kilim rug. How perfect, right? But the wall was looking barren nonetheless, so I went back to the thrift store with that in mind.

And I found this really unique woven fan. The sticker stated that it was made in the Philippines. It doesn’t appear to be very old but the loops and curves really won me over with their pretty look.

I still have some more work to do on this side. I’m not sold on keeping the trunk of toys in this spot. So I’m leaving it alone while I work on the bathroom and dining room. Just in case the right furniture piece pops up that’ll fill the space out more nicely, you know?

It’s time for me to check in with my progress for The One Room Challenge (a 6 week room makeover challenge hosted by Calling It Home). Just to recap, the space I’ve chosen to makeover is my dining room and my plan is to give it a boho, jungle, global flavor.

So some things have gone wrong.

I’m still waiting on the lighting, spray paint, art, rug and wallpaper to arrive. I don’t start ordering supplies or make plans in advance for this challenge so this is a hiccup I always run into.

Here’s where we’really at:

And, the story that really causes self pity is the story behind why we still don’t have a dining room table. *insert crying emoji*

Week 3 of the challenge, where I’m making over a dining room and I have no dining table. I’m a mess, I swear.

So I was looking on Craigslist for a table and nothing I wanted was coming up in my area. Somehow I ended up on a different city’s CL and a table and 6 chairs popped up for 30 freaking dollars. It was going to be at least a 2 hour drive 1 way but with the 6 week deadline and no hope nearby, I sent an email inquiring about it.

I received a reply pretty quick. The seller said that if I could come out next day, I could have it for free. FREE. I though, “dreams do come true!”

So Saturday morning I loaded my kid, dog and husband into the old truck and we headed for Fredericksburg. It took 3 hours with some bad traffic but we got there.

When I spoke with the owner of the set (she sells made over furniture out of cute sheds) and told her why I was there, she said, “you’re the one here for the table? You’re never going to believe it!” Apparently a couple had been there just before us and said they were there for the table.

They stole my table, I tell you what. I cried for a good hours on the way back empty handed. You know, I work full time, Monday through Friday. So I don’t get a whole lot of time to spend with my family. Wasting away most of a Saturday and gas money blew and it was an emotional roller coaster for me.

But, the good news is that I’ve overcome that grief and I have a new plan. But that doesn’t make the next few weeks easier. Because now the To-Do list looks like this:

1. Built a dining room table

2. Find new chairs (like, 6 matching chairs)

3. Wainscoting on lower 2/3 of walls with 1 feature section above fireplace

4. Replace trim around windows, doors and baseboards

5. Resize fireplace mantle and surround I’ve had sitting in the garage.

6. Paint lots of things

7. Install new lighting

Probably going to cut it really close. But that’s OK! I’m certain I’ll get most, if not all, of this done before 6 weeks is up.

Hey guys, Phew the week is kind of flying by. It’s probably because next week is going to be pretty intense for the next 6 weeks! What do you mean by that, you ask? (pretend you’re curious!) It’s another round of One Room Challenge!

So naturally you can expect that I’ve been thrifting for other spaces of my home, right? Yeah, I’m terrible about this staying focused thing. For thrift score thursday this week, I’m going to share some fun thrifted finds I’ve picked up for the makeover of my son’s room. Coming next fall. Goodness I have a bad case of Decorating ADD but I can’t help myself when I find perfect pieces for a space.

If you’re a regular you’ll have seen this mirror’s makeover as “Sunshower” wall art.

And then there’s this cute owl basket that will also end up as wall art.

I found this rather large Native American statue and he and I love it.
