Target’s Black Owned Businesses

February 28, 2022 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Black history month is a welcome reminder in being more intentional with my support of black owned businesses. Many retailers have started creating a dedicated section. I love this and have been spending countless hours discovering new favorites. Target’s black owned businesses have given me so many new brands to check out. I’ve narrowed down the choices to a must try asap list.

10 of the most stylish mirrors ever

February 14, 2022 by CORINNA HENDERSON

I love a good mirror. With gorgeous shapes and finishes, they do more for me than art does. From adding texture, complimenting a finish, or bringing in an interesting shape, the most stylish mirrors improve the feel and function of the room they’re in. As I love looking at pretty things, I’ve collected 10 of my favorites.

How To Choose Stylish Mirrors

  • Shape, Size, and Style are the three key “S’s” to choosing the perfect stylish mirrors.
  • Wall mirrors can be a focal point, added décor, to make a room look bigger and brighter. Placement matters when trying to achieve any of these. Try two rectangular mirrors beside one another on a large wall. Create a feature wall with different design mirrors together. Stacked frameless mirrors can visually open up a dark hallway. Increase the visual size of a room with large mirrors on opposite walls. In a room with a lot of angles, soften them with an ornate oval mirror.

Mirror Sizing

The general rule is that a mirror’s size should be two thirds the size of the piece of furniture it is hanging above. A 30 inch vanity should have a 20 inch mirror and a 60 inch dresser should have a 40 inch mirror. There are always exceptions. So if the mirror looks right to you, then go for it. Try taping off the area with painters tape in the dimensions of the mirror you love so you can “see” it before you buy it.

Mirror Shape

Mirrors come in every shape possible. But how do you choose which one? There are some general rules. Horizontal mirrors create an illusion of length and vertical mirrors create an illusion of height. Square and rectangular mirrors compliment a traditional style. Round mirrors add a softness to the décor of a room. Other geometric shapes can have a modern feel. Sunburst mirrors are great for eclectic interiors. My favorite are mirrors with an ogee arch and those bring in and compliment a global style.

Mirror Style

The frame is ultimately what will and won’t make a mirror work in a room. Ornate and eclectic frames work well on their own as showpieces. Frameless mirrors have an elegance to them. Wood mirrors are usually associated with rustic, natural, and farmhouse style. Light colored woods compliment Scandinavian style. Dark, oak mirrors work well in traditional rooms. A gilt finish has a luxurious feel to it. Glass framing is more modern and raw metal is more industrial.

The 10 Most Stylist Mirrors

I think the only bad thing about these mirrors are that there aren’t enough walls for them all. It’s easy to dream of all the different places and rooms they could all go in. I hope that narrowing down my favorites makes dreaming up inspiration easier. I can’t wait to share that project soon.

Can a mini fridge be stylish?

January 21, 2022 by CORINNA HENDERSON

For me, like I’m sure it does for many, mini fridges conjure up images of dorm rooms and garages. Surely there are other spaces a mini fridge makes sense too, right? Small, infrequently used kitchens could certainly benefit from a mini fridge. Or perhaps I just have that thought because I can’t stop daydreaming about the future kitchen remodel at my Grandma’s little country house. Either way it begs the question: Can a mini fridge be stylish?

Just Crazy Cat Lady Things…

January 18, 2022 by CORINNA HENDERSON

The past six months I’ve really dived into the crazy cat lady life. In the good way. Well, avoiding dealing with the grief of losing my beloved dog and cat last year isn’t so good. But, I’m told my house doesn’t smell like cat by multiple people. And that brings me to my topic of the day: cat litter boxes.

Starting LDN and everything else I’ve tried for CFS so far…

I’ve been taking low dose naltrexone (ldn) for just over a month at this point and I wanted to share an update on how it’s been going thus far. I started taking ldn because I tried everything else in an attempt to feel better. At my last PCP appointment, I told him I’d be trying […]

Checkerboard: The Latest Insta-Trend

You ever first see a trend and think, “nope, not for me.” That was, and still a little, me with the checkerboard trend. I’ve never liked checkerboard walls or floors. At least not enough to semi-permanently put it somewhere in my home. But I am still in pursuit of an interior design certificate and job […]

My best Amazon Prime Purchases Ever

Celebrating Pride Month With LGBT Businesses

Part of mindful consumerism, for me at least, is intentionally seeking out companies founded and owned by marginalized communities. Heritage and pride months are the perfect reminder to seek out alternative sources for goods and services. Join me in celebrating pride month with LGBT businesses below.

AAPI Skincare & Beauty Haul & Demo (dry skin, fragrance sensitive)

As my mental health has improved, I’ve enjoyed getting back into my mindfulness consumerism series. With AAPI month upon us, and quickly coming to an end, I took stock of what I needed to purchase and set out to buy replacements from AAPI skincare and beauty brands. I needed face wash, serum, and oil. For […]

Simple Minty Eye Makeup Look (Indigenous Beauty Brands)

As much as I loathe dealing with fallout atop base makeup, I still always start with base makeup. But lucky for me, there’s no powder products going on my eyes today. Despite being a simpler makeup look, there’s still a lot of drama going on. A sharp cat eye winged liner elevates the eyes. And […]

Indigenous Owned Shopping Faves

You’re shopping. Here’s everything you need to be shopping for from indigenous owned brands. From beauty to fashion to accessories and body care, these products are top tier. These may be my indigenous owned shopping faves, but they’re quality from design to ingredients to workmanship.

Full Face Latinx Brands

From September 15 – October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month. During this time I wanted to put together a full face of Hispanic owned beauty brands. Some of these brands are well known and others are smaller brands. I tried to find a balance of big name beauty brands and up and coming. After testing […]

Here’s My Faves for Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is upon us! It’s always my goal to be mindful of where I’m spending my money. During Heritage and Pride months, I try to make an effort to seek out brands that I may not otherwise be aware of. It’s no surprise, what’s out there is truly amazing. And I want to […]

Honoring Indigenous People for Heritage Month

I am sitting here, stuck, trying to come up with the best way to honor Indigenous People for this year’s Native American Heritage Month.
