Modern Succulent Wall Planter

June 1, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Plants are in the limelight this year. Thanks to influencers embracing and promoting the plant collecting lifestyle, we are seeing more and more products available for housing our plants. I’ve admired vintage wall mounted brass planters but there are planters in other styles showing up too! The Apollo Box reached out to see if I’d be willing to try out one of their circular wall planters in exchange for my thoughts and I was intrigued. If you are, too- keep reading!

the more you know

First off, I’ll introduce The Apollo Box. It’s a “things” shopping site. Categories range from Apparel to home decor to gifts to tech, drink ware and more. When you first hop on the site, you’ll see best sellers and new arrivals. This gives you a pretty good idea of the “things” you can expect to find on the whole site. In the menu you can choose to browse by more specific categories. Yanked straight from their about page, you can find “unique, fun, and creative products.”

Now that you’re familiar with where the product came from, let’s chat about the actual product. It came packaged well with easy to follow instructions and all the hardware needed to get it up on the wall. I used a power drill to drill out holes for the anchors and a hammer to lightly tap those in. Then used the power drill again to put the screws in through the pack piece. Then the glass slips in with metal tabs you’ll press into place to hold it still.

Boho Wall Decor- Modern Wall Planter Frame @adesignerathome

I found putting a plant in it to be a little cumbersome. The glass is higher than the backing of the frame. So you should be careful how high you lay the dirt so it’s not resting on your bare wall. This isn’t a surprise though. When you check out the product page, that’s clear in the pictures. Because it’s so small, getting everything in was tricky but not difficult. I wouldn’t say that would deter me from ever using others or from continuing to use this one.

I put my dirt and succulents in and then I gave it a bit of water and the water dripped out the bottom of the glass some. There’s no seal between the glass and the dirt so that’s not exactly shocking. That’s why I chose to put succulents in instead of something that would need moist-er soil because I guessed that would happen. Wiped up easy with a small hand towel. No worries.

Of course, faux plants are getting more and more realistic. You could avoid soil and water by using sand or rocks with faux. Just another route to go!

I find the circular shape to be a fun modern accent for any space. Modern spaces would naturally benefit from these but with my boho style, it fit right in. I like how it mixes with the textiles, colors and texture elsewhere in this corner of the living room. It also comes in yellow, black and red. Because my fingers are crossed I’ll be painting walls soon, I felt like white would forever be the most neutral.

My final thoughts? Cute and easy to use!

What do you think? Would you mix in a couple with your macrame and woven planters? Do tell boho babes!

Statement Bathroom Decor: Lanai Mirror

April 2, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Statement Mirrors. We put them in every room of those house. Statement mirrors are popularly used above buffets, behind sofas, over dressers and fireplace mantles. But one place I don’t often see a statement mirror is in the bathroom. And I find that fascinatingly odd because the mirror is the one and only necessary art piece in the room. Especially if you own your house, I have to give you the biggest encouraging thumbs up to go for the mirror of your design dreams. Because you can always take it with you when you move and use it in your new bathroom or another room.

Tip!

Ditch the complicated gallery wall. Go with a sophisticated large scale mirror to fill your wall space.

Previously in my bathroom I had a statement mirror. It was a moroccan style mirror and it’s gorgeous. I’m definitely not getting rid of it, just using it elsewhere in the house. It just didn’t have the “wow” factor the space really needed. So when a PR rep reached out to me to see if I would be interested in reviewing the Lanai Mirror from Serena & Lily, I restrained myself from saying “heck yes!” and agreed in a slightly more professional manner. The mirror was sent to me free of charge. I want to disclose that up front.

the more you know

So, here are my thoughts:

This mirror is heavy. And as a result, it needs to be packaged well to prevent it from being damaged in transit. Thankfully, the mirror came packaged in a careful and thoughtful manner. All of the bamboo that sticks out had specially shaped pieces of foam around them to ensure the mirror truly stayed in place and cushioned on it’s way here.

So these babes aren’t doing as well of a job at concealing my paint fail but maybe they’re being that helpful friend, encouraging me to Get. It. Done. Already. Like, really, the easiest thing I need to fix. Lazy city. Lol. I opted to move the Palm into the living room. ? it survives! I really, really want it to thrive! Rainy day over here. What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods? #showmeyourboho #eatcraftdiy

A post shared by Corinna | Hampton Roads, VA (@adesignerathome) on Mar 31, 2017 at 8:43am PDT

But really, that’s the boring stuff. If you want to know what I think of a $400 mirror, you probably want to know about the mirror, amiright? Like I said, it’s heavy. And that’s because the bamboo is real, lacquered bamboo. It is not plastic, it is not dried out, hollowed out, cheap pieces of bamboo. The lattice, interlocking design goes overtop a single piece of mirror. It’s not a bunch of small mirrors cut to fit in all the little cavities. I was very, very dissapointed with a mirror I bought from a popular flash sale site years ago that did that. When the cheaper route is taken and the mirror is not solid with the design resting overtop it, the image in the mirror is distorted. Plus, all those extra grooves make dust collection inevitable and impossible to clean. Also, the backing is more than just cheap MDF stapled on. This mirror is quality.

New mirror vibes ✌?✌ #showmeyourboho

A post shared by Corinna | Hampton Roads, VA (@adesignerathome) on Mar 28, 2017 at 5:15pm PDT

It’s really freaking pretty. Like, you guys. Really. It’s a warm and lively raw bamboo finish. The mirror itself is of really good quality. The interlocking bamboo pieces are done in a way that looks seamless (and they’re spliced and connected in a way that it won’t ever come loose).

Oh, it can also be hung vertically and horizontally. There is strong hardware on the back to hang it both ways.

Would I buy this mirror? Yes. I have spent this amount of money on a mirror before. And I absolutely, in my mirror buying experiences, beleive this to be worth the money.

Shop

Now, I’m not a salesman. But if a tropical vibe is your thing and you’re in the market for a gorgeous mirror, you can buy it here. I couldn’t find where they participate in rebate sites like Ebates.com, but when I went looking for coupon codes, I found that they have a refer a friend program. So if you’d like 20% off (that’s almost $80 off!), here’s the special link. And you can sign up to refer friends as well and get rewarded (I’m not sure what the reward is yet since that part was vague when I got the link). Then once you’re on the site you can just search “Lanai Mirror.” Either way you shop, if you shop, it’s a good mirror that I think a lot of you would like.

Let me know if you enjoyed this review, if you have questions and if you’d like to see more reviews by leaving me a comment below. Be well and I’ll chat with you again soon.

Epic Etsy Find: Encapsulated Flower Crystals

March 24, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

The next discovery in my “Epic Etsy Finds & The Shops Behind Them” series is a a wonderfully whimsical one. Handmade encapsulated tumbled crystals and dried flowers are set in a resin mold shaped like various sized crystals. They’re lightweight and curiously interesting to look at. Love by my friends and family so far, it’s always an item that draws the fingers. Though not actual crystals themselves, there still seems to be an energy within them that radiates an energy that everyone must feel. Solaras Garden is where you can find these “crystals.”

Do you find yourself drawn to elements of the earth? Drawn to the sea, rocks, crystals and fresh breeze? You probably have your own crystals, precious stones, plants and carved wood decor about your home. You may find yourself having hippie, gypsy or bohemian tendencies. If you do, you’re probably always on the look for unique decor. Handmade or found items that speak their own unique tale within your own life’s story.

A post shared by Corinna | Hampton Roads, VA (@adesignerathome) on Mar 10, 2017 at 5:35pm PST

Shanna has an array of crystals available in her shop. Filled with dried flowers, seahorses and more, they can be bought in singles or sets.

She sent me a set of three (with no obligation to write a blog post I’ll add). So far I’ve enjoyed displaying them together the most. I have a thing about sets and displaying things in threes so this is working best for me. I currently have them displayed on shelves I put up above the toilet in my bathroom. I encourage lingering no matter what the room in my home. A sensory experience is what I lust after and these have been the perfectly interesting piece.

As with everything unique and peculiar, you just have to check them out. You can visit her shop here, but I’ll share a few of my favorites below if you just want a quick glance. I hope you’ve enjoyed this find within the series!

Dramatic Digital Frame: Meural

March 3, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Meural provided product for this post. An affiliate link is contained within this post.
All opinions are 100% honest & completely my own.

Digital picture frames. All our grandma’s had them to display pictures of all the grandkids, right? Well, a company called Meural reached out to me wanting to send me one of their digital canvas frames. And it’s way cooler than the ones I’ve seen before. I’ll show you how I’ve incorporated mine into my decor and then I’ll share my final thoughts on it.

Dramatic Digital Canvas

I’ve promised you my thoughts. I’ve had the frame for a few weeks now and here’s what I’ve experiences. The hanging hardware isn’t my favorite. The anchors are metal but the lip that presses into the wall is flimsy and both of mine cracked. I ended up using my own anchors. Also, as I mentioned in the video, the plug is very large. So make sure you aren’t plugging it into a tight space. I appreciate that the cord is fabric covered but I still don’t like looking at it. I think I’ll invest in a cover for it.

Hand painted mural around the meural digital canvas

The selection of albums to choose from is massive. But as far as I’ve been able to figure out, you can’t pick and choose photos from different albums to display in your own order. I played on the app and website and couldn’t figure that out. Some albums had one or two photos that I loved but the rest just weren’t vibing for me. I wasn’t satisfied with my conclusion on this so I checked again (I promise I tried to figure this out multiple times), and I figured it out. Create a playlist in the menu to the left and then when you’re viewing individual pieces, click on the “plus sign” to add it to the playlist you created. I did find a couple albums full of photos I love displaying and I love that it can be set to change automatically on a timer. So there’s basically a new photo every time I come into the room.

Is it worth the money? I think that’ll depend on the person. I’ve got art prints in my home much more expensive than this. And those are just prints. If you’re a person that values versatility and enjoys the digital age, absolutely worth the money.

Should you find yourself interested in purchasing one of these digital canvases, you can use code “ADESIGNERATHOME” and it will take $50 off the purchase price 🙂 And you can purchase one here.

eef&tsbt: Modern Boho Art Prints

February 27, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

To add a retro art deco feel to your bohemian home, an easy art solution is modern style art prints. I first discovered these prints through Instagram. A few of my friends had shared styled photos with the MotivatedArt prints and I was hooked on the hip vibe they have. I’ve played around with 4 of them in person now and I have a second set of 4 I want to share with you just to give you more ideas on how versatile and complimentary the prints are. MotivatedArt on Etsy provided me with the prints in exchange for sharing them. The styling and thoughts are all my own though.

I hated that the way the light shines through this room makes the frames constantly look crooked no matter how leveled they are. So I looked around for other places to put them and I ended up splitting the quad and put one on my newly installed bathroom shelves.

I've been working on getting various shelves up in the bathroom all day and as a result I missed seeing that there's 25 thousand boho babes here! Thank you for validating my journey and thank you for sharing yours with me through #showmeyourboho. I have been collecting things for a while now to do a giveaway. Keep an eye out for that this week!

And because I realize showing you only vertical prints does those of you looking for horizontal prints no good, here are 4 favorites I picked to share with you. Perfect as a quad or split them up for a cohesive art story around a room or even your house. Or display just one of 30, you do you boo.

Bohemian Dining Room Lighting

January 13, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

When aiming to add bohemian flair to a dining space through lighting, it can be hard to pinpoint what styles will enhance this design goal. Bohemian encompasses such a large array of styles and that in itself makes choosing a particular direction to go in kind of difficult. When I think bohemian lighting, I think of a couple different separate categories: Rustic, Romantic and Vintage vibes. So depending on what all you have going on in your space, one of those categories will hopefully find you the perfect light.

Dining Table Lighting for the chic bohemian: rustic, romantic and vintage vibes courtesy of ADesignerAtHome

I kept all of the lights I chose to feature under $500 because it feels like a good kind of high but not extravagant budget. Lighting really sets the tone for a dining space so it can be good to budget a bit more of the budget for it’s impact. That’ll totally be up to you, but know that none of these are over $500.

Rustic:

Romantic:

Olive Bronze Chandelier | Antique Gold Pendant | Brass And Crystal Chandelier | Bronze Pendant

Vintage:

What do you think? What comes to mind when you’re thinking of bohemian lighting? Especially for a space like a dining room. Since they can be such a formal space, it makes infusing the relaxed vibes of bohemianism a bit more tricky. But that’s why I’d love to hear your thoughts! Chime in, comment section below 😉
