Shopping for pieces to decorate your bedroom can be a lot of fun. But let’s be real, we want to make some things, too! Compliment your bohemian aesthetic with these three do-it-yourself projects.

Boho bedrooms tend to have a lot of the same elements as the other rooms of the home. They use layers and patterns to create a visual experience. But the bedroom also needs to be a place of comfort, and rest for our rejuvenation. Adding in some handmade details can remind us of our powerful ability to create and these projects compliment an atmosphere for relaxing.

Don’t forget! You can always adjust sizes and materials to fit your specific color and style preferences. These tutorials will show you how I made these things for my space but there are easy ways to change them up to fit yours ????

Sanding Floors, Snow Delays and Boho Bedding

They say January is a good time to buy linens and I’m going to need some of those sales because I did not realize how expensive bedding is for someone on a tight budget like myself.

So it’s been a week since we last chatted and my house has about 2 feet more snow surrounding it than it did since that last check in. We were hit hard by winter storm Greyson. The way our home is situated on our street along with the direction of the winds from the storm ended up sending most of the snow on our street into our yard. My driveway is 4 cars length long and I parked it at the end of the driveway hoping the house and garage would shelter it from getting buried by as much snow. No.. no… no. the wind blew in the exact direction to dump 3 feet of snow around my car. And then I had to shovel three more cars lengths worth of 18 inch snow to the street. That sob story is to excuse my lack of progress on the room. Please pity me ????

Transitional Decor: Christmas To Winter

Well Happy New Year my friends! I’m pretty sure I lost a few days inbetween Christmas day and today and that means things are running a bit behind as far as Christmas decoration removal goes. But that’s okay! Those twinkle lights are kinda magical as the countdown to a new year happens. But as we are getting cozy with our new goals and the colder weather, we need a transition from all that Christmas decor. I don’t know about you, but when I pull down the decorations- things just look empty! So I’m going to show you how I take my mantel from Christmas to Winter in just a few easy steps to hopefully inspire your transitional decorating.

This is what my mantel looked like leading up to Christmas:

Tip #1: Pack up all the strictly holiday decor and get it out of the way.

The majority of what you see on that mantel is holiday decor. And it’s overtly Christmas decor. The miniature trees could be striped down but I am not a fan of fake plants for anything but putting ornaments on so those and everything but the three potted plants went into the Christmas bin. Here’s a visual of the “pack it up” stuff.

Tip #2 Replace your anchor decor

I like balance on my mantel so I normally keep two matching items that are a bit taller on either end. Since that was a Christmas item for me, I replaced them with these white carved wood pillar candle holders and pink candles from the dollar store to keep it budget friendly.

Because the days are shorter and we experience so little sunshine in comparison to Summer, I like to brighten and whiten things up a bit so I swapped out the beaded garland with a white one I found at Target in their Christmas decorating section.

The rest of the space is then left open for swapping some decorative pieces in and out.

3. Pull in wintery colors, reminders of upcoming Spring, and cozy details

Then it’s all about filling in the gaps. Much like my summer mantel, I like to keep it cleaner than I’d normally fill it in. There’s two reasons for this. One is so that I can have a spot to drop in new plant cuttings as I have them. The other reason is because I like a bit of visual space in winter since my brain can feel foggy from the drab days.

Idea To Try: Raid the Christmas clearance section for ornaments you can incorporate into your winter decorations. The colors and styles are normally spot on for winter decor!

Boho New Year Photo A Day Challenge

You asked and I’m thrilled to give it to you guys! We are kicking off the new year with  brand spanking new #showmeyourboho photo a day challenge for the month of January. Being the first month of the year, I wanted to focus on new beginnings, progression, a subtle nod to the winter season (but those of you in summer can easily play along, too). I hope you enjoy these prompt and that they inspire you to play along. Don’t forget to use the #showmeyourboho hashtag with your posts so those of us interacting can find you and your posts.

Needing some inspiration on what to post for each of the prompts? While you are totally encouraged to interpret each one as your mind sees it, here is a run down on some of my ideas for each day.

  10. Handmade– something you’ve made, something someone else has made, decor, food, goods

  12. Morning– morning sunlight, the bedroom, breakfast
  13. Layers– on your body, on your bed, on your sofa, on your walls
  14. Serve– food, serveware, a set table, drinks, dinner out
  15. Favorite– space, place, item, grouping, food, people
  16. Progress– decorating, cleaning, reaching goals
  17. Dine– where you eat, what you’re eating
  18. Three– the number, a three photo slideshow, a collection of 3 things
  19. Illuminate– lighting, candles, sunlight
  20. Selfie– show off your face and introduce yourself
  21. Bloom– flowers, new leaves, beauty, smiling faces
  22. Happy Spot– inside or outside the home, show us where it makes you happiest
  23. #widn– don’t be shy, show off what you’re up to on this day and tag your buds to share, too.
  24. Pasttime– spare time activities, hobbies, what you carve out time to do
  25. Gather– collect some things, collect some people, or share the space you gather in
  26. Little Things– little decorative pieces, little humans, small things that are important to you
  27. Self Care– things you use to take care of yourself, a space you self care in
  28. Hues– show off the moody, brights, and lack of hues in your spaces
  29. Decorated– any space, any surface, and corner
  30. Results– your progression with goals, an after shot, a refreshed spot
  31. Reflection– mirrors, light bouncing, a look back on something special
