What do you do when you have a blank slate? With nothing to go off but the knowledge your grandma enjoys yellow and blue kitchens? It’s something I’ve been pondering as I try to fix up her country home. More than anything I think it needs to be a cozy country home design. And I think I’ve nailed it.

Drips, Deliveries and More Floor Space

Its reveal day for the primp and pamper bathroom makeover series and I am so stinking excited to see what my fellow blogger friends have done with their bathrooms! My reveal is not a finished bathroom space. It started with being constantly sick then it was everything taking longer than it should have (I’m looking at you paint) and extra trips for the hardware store. And of course, nothing wanted to work where I planned for it so let’s just dive into this.
Before we go into the details of my past week, I wanted to let you know that you can find pictures of everyone’s reveals on social media with the #bathroomprimpandpamper hashtag.
Prefer to watch? Here’s the vlog!
I started the project off with deciding to paint the walls. They went a very pretty slightly grey light teal. One coat paint went on patchier than I’d hoped and it ended up taking a few days to paint versus the one + a day of touch ups.
With painting the walls, I really wanted to bring more airiness to the space with a smaller white vanity. I went with one that has a cabinet just 12 inches deep but that still has a full sink. It’s the best of both worlds! The layout may suck in this bathroom but having the extra floor space is awesome.
The lights went back up and the vanity was installed. Naturally, I ran into some problems with that and I had to buy a new thingamabopper to run the hot water and now the cold water has a slow leak. Also, the vanity is slightly taller than the last so I had to remove my tile splash guard and reinstall it. That added a ton more time to the process as I also had to patch areas around the tile and repaint.
The shower curtain arrived and it’s perfect! I love the neutral colors with the global African mud cloth inspired motif.
The rug also arrived and it’s perfect with the shower curtain. Except that I’m an idiot and can’t get measurements right even after 10 times. The rug doesn’t fit. My brain is fried from problem solving so many things at this point but I’m trying to come up with a solution.
I replaced the stock knobs on the vanity with ones from Liberty Hardware and the finish matches my existing faucet and towel bars perfectly!

I still need to put up shelves, paint the trim and door, figure out a rug solution, fix some hardware issues and style the space. You’ll have to come back in just 1 more week to catch the finished space!

Making Bathroom Changes For Resale VS Personal Style

The reality is, this isn’t a house nor a neighborhood I want to live in forever. So it’s really got me thinking hard about the money I spend on making the house look one way or another. Basically, changes for future resale versus changes for what I would do free range.
Before I go any further, let me thank those of you visiting from Maggie Overby Studios. I am refreshing my bathroom with future resale value in mind but still want it decorated for my current bohemian taste. Thank you to Jeweled Interiors for coordinating this Primp and Pamper Bathroom Makeover blog hop.
I hate painting walls and cannot afford to pay someone to do it for me. So if the walls are getting painted, they’re either going white, because it’s easy to paint over, or it’s going a color that I’ve researched to be a color that helps sell a house.
And that’s what I’ve spent a chunk of the last week debating. I found this article on CBS online that referenced a Zillow analysis of sold properties and found the “best” colors to paint walls based on their findings. Apparently powder blue bathrooms are a huge hit with buyers!
I am not personally a fan of powder blue. And we live in a beachside neighborhood so I took that knowledge and grabbed every paint chip in a light blue I could find at Lowe’s that didn’t have a purple hue. I’ve been playing around with them in the bathroom during different times of the day and on different walls and I found a color called Gossamer Sky by Valspar.
The color has a sophistication about it from the grayness and has a hint of green which, I feel gives it an air of beachy vibes. I really like the color.
So I’ve taped off the trim and tile and I’m on my way to go pick up a gallon of paint. I’ve never painted a bathroom before so I’m hoping this isn’t as painful as it seems it’s going to be. I’m thinking I’ll just remove the toilet altogether so I don’t have to acrobat my way around it.
The Video Log (VLOG)
I haven’t picked up towels yet. I only just finished my antibiotics. Saturday I spent at my parents house for the saint patricks day parade. And the rest of the weekend my husband needed the car for appointments and errands. So I’ve got an awful lot to get done before next Tuesday, eh?
Still To Get Done:
Paint Walls
Buy and Hang a Cabinet
Buy and Install or Paint Vanity
…Rug?
Buy Towels. But I want to hang them on a ladder instead of bars. But I already have bars.
Rehang mirror. I need better hardware for this. The mirror is currently crooked.
I want to hang a linen curtain. And add a handheld nozzle to our shower head. But some of those things may have to wait until after reveal day.
I missed out on time being sick and missed out on working with some of the sponsors but I hope to have a completely refreshed space with ideas to share with you next week!
