Storage Solutions: Ideas for using a set of Baskets

September 27, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

StoreBeautifully

Storage needs fluctuate throughout the seasons. We always need storage, but maybe what we are storing is different today than what we will be storing in 6 months. We are entering the cooler months of the year and that means winter wear, extra blankets, visitors and a lot more indoor play (toys, toys and more toys). Adjusting how we currently organize things to accommodate all the extra things this season brings can easily be accomplished with a set of baskets.

Deeper hues of colors you already decorate, mixed in with some earthy colors are a great way to effortlessly welcome autumn. Because teals and blues play a prominent role in my decorating, this teal and jute basket set compliments a seasonal change in my decor. Baskets come in a variety of materials and colors, though. So you’re sure to find a set that blends into your home.

I chose a set of 6 baskets in a teal water hyacinth. The baskets are gigantic. Which is pretty great when you’re considering the amount of things that need to fit into them. More baskets and other storage containers can be found in Wayfair’s storage selection.

5 Ideas For Basket Storage

These suggestions work great when you’re eyeing a set of nesting baskets and just aren’t sure what you’d use all the various different sizes for!

Children’s toys

It’s getting cooler outside and I know my kid is trading bike time for dinosaur play. I know that’s a challenge a lot of parents deal with this time of year. Toys end up everywhere! Baskets are perfect because it’s easy to pour things out and throw things back in. And… pick them up and throw them in the boardroom when company arrives.

Giant Basket = Giant toy storage for all the indoor play during cooler months like Fall and Winter

Entryway Storage

Summer was pretty easy. We didn’t need to think about jackets and other outer wear. We could just get up and go. Cooler months requires things and preparation. And things need places to go. Putting a basket by the front door is an easy drop and grab solution for umbrellas, scarves and gloves. A change in seasons = a change in wardrobe = a change in storage.

Small or no entry way solution: Use a basket to gather gloves, scarves and umbrellas

Spare Blanket Holder

I know my kid and husband are perfectly content putting extra blankets on the floor and then stepping on it before grabbing it when they’re chilly. Me on the other hand? I prefer crumb free throw blankets and pillows. A throw basket beside the sofa is a stylish way of keeping everyone in the family warm on cool evenings.

Keep a pretty basket beside the sofa for extra blankets and throw pillows for those cool Fall nights you want to snuggle up and keep warm.

Guest Toiletry Essentials

It’s bound to happen. With all of the extra visitors we have in our homes these holiday filled months, the toilet paper runs out fast. Keeping a basket out in plain sight filled with extra rolls keeps visitors stress free. I mean, nobody likes texting their friend for the bathroom for more toilet paper.

Basket full of toilet paper keeps guests at ease during the holidays since they won't have to worry about running out of toilet paper.

Off Season Wear

If you’ve got a spare bit of space in the bedroom, tuck those off season clothes into a basket and throw a tray and plant on top. Chic plant stand meets needed clothing storage. It’ll be there when you need it and you won’t have to fumble in the depths of closets or attics.

Processed with VSCO with preset

It’s no secret that baskets make fantastic storage. But maybe you hadn’t thought of a few of these Fall inspired ideas. Do you have any great tips for using baskets? Let’s keep the ideas going by leaving yours in the comments below. Don’t forget to share these ideas by Tweeting, Facebook sharing, or saving to one of your Pinterest boards.

Moody Plant Prints

September 22, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

As summer comes to an end, I find myself drawn more and more to the moodier things in life. Moodier lighting, makeup, colors, you know the drill. I’m getting myself ready for the shorter, cooler days ahead. What better way to share the moodiness than to pull together a collection of art prints to fill the home with that vibe.

These are botanical prints with large areas of darkness or a grey tone to the photo. Interchanging photos in your gallery wall or atop a credenza are a great way to add a subtle seasonal touch to your home.

These prints are free for any use. They are from unsplash and pexel so they even come with a license to use for commercial use without attribution. But it’s always nice, so I’ve included that below each photo for reference.

Using Incense + Favorite Scents

September 20, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

a-mini-modern-bohemian-guide

I have been burning incense for the majority of my life. My mom always had eclectic things in the home and visited magic shops because of her fascination with faeries and dragons. Me? Not so much into those things, but while visiting those shops I found the incense and crystals. And I’ve been an avid collector and enjoyer ever since.

Using incense has become a bit of a fad in recent years with the rise in popularity with bohemianism. But they don’t go hand in hand. If you’re into bohemianism, you don’t have to utilize incense and vice versa. They make lovely alternatives to room sprays and candles, but if you’re a believer in having control over the energies around you, they’re also an amazing tool.

uses-for-incense

Here are some of my favorite ways of using incense:

To freshen the air in a space.

To replace candles for scent and ambiance.

To create an atmosphere for meditation or yoga

To encourage:

  • creativity
  • concentration
  • confidence
  • healing
  • a reduction in anxiety and tension
  • sleepiness or wakefulness

favorite-scents

Frankincense: Predominately found in middle eastern trade history, this scent is complex with a dusty, aromatic pine and sweet lemon-orange. This scent is used to evoke calm and peacefulness.

Jasmine: a feminine floral scent with a warm, sensual note to it making it a masculine leaning floral smell. This scent promotes friendships through mental/emotional connections.

Nag Champa: the origin of this fragrance is Indian. The scent is a mixture of sandalwood and plumeria. This is classically a sacred incense and can be used in place of sandalwood.

Sandalwood: The less complex sister of nag champa, with only the earthy, smooth and spicy wood scent. It has religious importance in Hinduism, Buddhism, Sufism, Zoroastrians, and lesser known Chinese and Japansese religions. It’s often used to purify a space.

Tuberose: Tuberose quite literally embodies the smell of the flower, tuberose. It’s an exotic, sweet. floral smell. The plant is native to Mexico, but I cannot find origins on the incense itself. The incense is thought to ward off evil and negativity to restore happiness and harmony.

Whether you’re in it for the spirituality aspect or you just like the way they smell, incense can be a beneficial part of life that is worth exploring. Do you use incense? Let me know your favorites in the comments below.

Boho Shower Curtains

September 18, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

budget boho style

I’m back again for another installment of my budget boho series where I take a single item we would use in the decorating of a space and I show you all the available budget options for a variety of different styles of boho. Previously we covered budget friendly ways to bring suzani into the home. Today we will cover some beautiful boho shower curtains.

I believe choosing a shower curtain is so very important. You should spend a bit of time ensuring the one you choose will bring the right impact to the space. Because at the end of the day, it’s one of only a few ways to bring a textile experience to the space.

I’ve been using a tapestry that I cut to fit the width of the shower opening but It’s too long and starting to get discolored from getting stomped on/soaked and enduring the regular life a 5 year old throws at things. So I’m looking at switching out ours for one that is waterproof. I could throw the tapestry in the wash, but reviews say it removes the gold finish. I think it’s about time for change then.

Whether you’re the jungle vibing bohemian, the hippie bohemian, the ethereal bohemian or the global loving chic, I’ve hopefully included something you’re going to love here.

If you’ve got a bit more spending money, these shower curtains lend something a little extra special, plus they support artists directly.  I also feel like some of these have a more anthro feel to them and are unique.

If you’re not yet using a printed shower curtain, you’re missing out on an opportunity to bring style to the space. Bring a splash of color, a touch of pattern or choose a curtain that extends the vibe from the rest of your home. Boho shower curtains are specifically made for wet spaces and most are designed to resist mold growth, too. So where we would go crazy with whatever we want for curtains anywhere else in the home, these are perfect for what they’re sold for. I’m excited to get a new shower curtain in my bathroom and will show pictures as soon as it arrives!

If you’ve got a fabulous shower curtain, or upgrade yours to something cute soon, share pics with #showmeyourboho so I can see them!

➡️ Save these boho shower curtain ideas for now and later to your bathroom ideas Pinterest board.

➡️ Tag your gal/guy/roommates in a Facebook post hinting at for a new boho shower curtain.

Bohemian Home Decor Under $25

September 16, 2017 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Budget Boho Style Home Decor Under $25

Maybe you’ve got a shelf that needs filling in or you just want a small change for the sofa. Or, maybe you’re feeling like a space is a little lackluster lately and you’re wanting a pop of bohemian. Whether you’re looking for a small change or are just looking for budget decor options, these home decor pieces will add that boho style.

Below I’ve broken up the various different types of decor you can find for under $25. Wall decor, throw pillow, throw blankets, candles, candle holders, vases, tabletop decor, planters, frames and lanterns. Click the links to check out mini shopping guides for some of my favorite home decor finds for less than $25.

Decorate The Walls:

The walls are a canvas for beautiful things, mementos and memories. Add a handmade and textural touch to the space with a macrame wall hanging. Or bump up practicality with beautiful painted hooks. Maybe you’ve got a flair for global style and a toran would fit well in the mix. Or keep it simple and bring in art prints with bright colors and motifs reminiscent of classic boho style.

Adorn Seating:

Lounging should be a comfortable experience. Create an inviting seating area with throw pillows made from ethnic materials or add a touch of geometric interest. As long as the pillows are beautiful and comfortable, they’ll serve their purpose well.

Layer On The Cozy:

Blankets may not be practical for home in hotter regions, but they still look fabulous! Bohemian style is all about layering. Drape a throw over the side of a sofa, instantly face lift a tired chair by throwing a blanket over it, or decorate the bed with an extra layer across the foot.

Photo Frames:

When you find a fabulous little art print, stick it in an equally fabulous frame. Or maybe you’re one to appreciate photos of friends and family about. Let your art and photos rest easy in brightly colored frames that compliment your decor.

Scents & Flickering Ambiance:

Candles are a beautiful compliment to a space. Their low light exudes a warm and cozy vibe and their scents fill our senses. Practical and beautiful, candles in reusable tins or free standing pillar atop a candlestick compliment any room. Stick one on your bathroom counter, the dining table, kitchen counter or bedside table.

Candle Vessels:

Tea lights and pillar candles need a beautiful holder in order to take things up a notch. Dainty tealights made to look light flowers, wall sconces to free up table top space, small lanterns to flicker beautiful designs on the walls and pillar candle holders are all ways to bright candles into a space in a beautiful way. They also make it easy to keep multiple candles about in a space without looking stale.

Light It Up With Lanterns:

Lanterns are an interesting way of adding height and dimension to a space. You can hang them and fill them with a candle or plant. Or you can stick them on tables. Good decor involves varying heights and depths and lanterns are a beautiful way of achieving that.

Pretty Plant Pots:

They’re absolutely necessary aren’t they? Plants need a place to live and that instantly makes them perfect candidates for decor. You could choose a simpler one to stick in a hanging planter or painted ones for a pop of color or subtle textural ones for a pretty yet subdued look.

Add Height With A Vase:

Garden clippings make a space feel homey and lived in. Give those clippings a beautiful vessel to be displayed in proudly. Not a gardener? Faux leaves, store bought blooms and pothos clippings all look especially divine. Go for a bold vase with simpler clippings and a neutral vase to let brighter and bolder clippings shine.

Leave No Surface Bare:

Fill the inbetween spaces with beautiful tabletop decor. A carved hand doubles and jewelry display, a painted trinket dish can work to house keys, and sometimes let a little impracticality enter a space and simply put out some pretty pieces that don’t serve a purpose.

Simple Minty Eye Makeup Look (Indigenous Beauty Brands)

As much as I loathe dealing with fallout atop base makeup, I still always start with base makeup. But lucky for me, there’s no powder products going on my eyes today. Despite being a simpler makeup look, there’s still a lot of drama going on. A sharp cat eye winged liner elevates the eyes. And […]
