How I Made It: Sunshower Wall Art tutorial

March 29, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Hi. My name is Corinna and I’m a bohemian decor addict. While the base of all my decorating is vintage and second hand. I also really love good doses of whimsy in my decor.

Have you ever heard of or seen a sunshower?

sunshower

sun·show·er

(sŭn′shou′ər)

n.

A localized rain shower in which rain falls while the sun is shining.

I love the weather and have been obsessed since a young age. So it was fitting that I come across an old mirror in a sun shape at the thrift store. I actually really love the original colors and design to the piece, but the finish was worn pretty badly and some damage had completely removed it in some places.

So I decided to spray paint it. Conveniently, I remembered I ought to take a “before” picture after I had already blocked off all the glass. But I’m sure you get the point without a reflection of how crappy the exterior of my house is looking right now.

With 2 different sized teardrop crystals, some cheap white thread and a hot glue gun, I added my artistic interpretation of what the sun shower would look like in wall art form.

I’m pretty enthralled with how it came out and can’t wait to put it in the room that’s currently a wreck with craft supplies but will be clean and full of fun things for my son soon. In between the last few projects in the bathroom, starting the dining room for ORC and generally just maintaining the house on my days off from work, I’m also working away at our bedrooms.

They’ve needed help for a while.

I’ve had a few things picked out for my son’s “new” room and this will be one of the pieces to make it’s way in there.

I had so much fun tapping into my creative side. It’s not something I get to do a whole lot working in the medical field. If you’d like to recreate this look, here’s a list of similar materials I used:

Teardrop Beads

White Thread

Hot Glue Gun

Glue Sticks

This is such an adorable idea! I’m obsessed – glittery crystals are always a good idea, but I would NEVER have thought to pair the with the mirror! Fantastic job!

This is inspired. I feel like if I had seen this mirror, I might have joked about it looking like a bunch of peppers (was it supposed to look like peppers? Like “hot”? I can’t tell). You saw soooo far beyond that! Love how it turned out!

Starting LDN and everything else I’ve tried for CFS so far…

I’ve been taking low dose naltrexone (ldn) for just over a month at this point and I wanted to share an update on how it’s been going thus far. I started taking ldn because I tried everything else in an attempt to feel better. At my last PCP appointment, I told him I’d be trying […]

Checkerboard: The Latest Insta-Trend

You ever first see a trend and think, “nope, not for me.” That was, and still a little, me with the checkerboard trend. I’ve never liked checkerboard walls or floors. At least not enough to semi-permanently put it somewhere in my home. But I am still in pursuit of an interior design certificate and job […]

My best Amazon Prime Purchases Ever

I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that it’s time for Amazon’s annual Prime day. And you likely don’t need me to tell you about my best Amazon Prime purchases ever. But I’m telling you, these are such good products and I got them for a steal too!

Celebrating Pride Month With LGBT Businesses

Part of mindful consumerism, for me at least, is intentionally seeking out companies founded and owned by marginalized communities. Heritage and pride months are the perfect reminder to seek out alternative sources for goods and services. Join me in celebrating pride month with LGBT businesses below.

AAPI Skincare & Beauty Haul & Demo (dry skin, fragrance sensitive)

As my mental health has improved, I’ve enjoyed getting back into my mindfulness consumerism series. With AAPI month upon us, and quickly coming to an end, I took stock of what I needed to purchase and set out to buy replacements from AAPI skincare and beauty brands. I needed face wash, serum, and oil. For […]

Simple Minty Eye Makeup Look (Indigenous Beauty Brands)

As much as I loathe dealing with fallout atop base makeup, I still always start with base makeup. But lucky for me, there’s no powder products going on my eyes today. Despite being a simpler makeup look, there’s still a lot of drama going on. A sharp cat eye winged liner elevates the eyes. And […]

Full Face Latinx Brands

From September 15 – October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month. During this time I wanted to put together a full face of Hispanic owned beauty brands. Some of these brands are well known and others are smaller brands. I tried to find a balance of big name beauty brands and up and coming. After testing […]

Here’s My Faves for Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is upon us! It’s always my goal to be mindful of where I’m spending my money. During Heritage and Pride months, I try to make an effort to seek out brands that I may not otherwise be aware of. It’s no surprise, what’s out there is truly amazing. And I want to […]
