Our Holiday Cards

December 5, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

It’s the most joyful month of the year and we’re a bit late to the game but we’ve just chosen our holiday cards and I thought I’d share it with you. I wanted the cards to be something beautiful that our friends and family would want displayed, almost as art in their home through the season. Trending this year are dark blue, black and white, botanical inspired designs and metallic foil press. With that and my own personal aesthetic in mind, I carefully looked through every card that minted offers and here’s what I decided on.

mintedholidays

The design is called Fanciful Pheasant and is one of their non photo holiday cards. It’s designed by Erin McManness. There are independent artists from all over the globe that create the designs you see on the cards. And most of the cards are customizable in several ways including colors, text, shape and more.

Last year I made the mistake of ordering way more cards than I ever could need. So I took a realistic approach to things this year and only ordered the 25 count option. I don’t have an awful lot of family, nor do I have many friends I’d send a Christmas card to. Mad props to those of you who do though! I respect your ability to keep up with so many people.

I thought it’d be fun to also send out New Years greetings, too. After combing through everything offered, I chose the Bohemian Snowflake design because I thought it could also double as art once the time came to put away all the celebratory New Year’s decor.

mintednewyear

The Bohemian Snowflake design was created by Kaydi Bishop. I changed the text up to leave room for us to hand sign this face of this one since pen marks on the back could ruin the pretty design. Minted also offers the option to import the names of addresses of the people you want to send the cards to but I never have that information handy and it’s already quite late to be putting it off any further. It’ll take approximately a weekish for them to arrive so I’ll collect and hand address them myself.

By now you guys have to know that I enjoy working with minted. The quality of everything I’ve been sent and have bought have been great. Part of the customization options include what type of paper you want the designs printed on. I love that they offer a recycled paper option. You can truly end up with something no one else has.

I would love to see your holiday cards. Minted is offering different sales every day so make sure you pop in and check out what specials they’re running and how they can fulfill any art, cards, gifts and more you may need this holiday season.

How To Add A Safety Pin To Your Profile Picture

November 13, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Earlier today I caught wind of the safety pin movement that’s come up as a result of the USA’s presidential election results. I’ve already heard stories of minorities being attacks for their appearance, religion, sexuality and place of origin. I want to do my part in extending my compassion and love for these groups. I feel like the safety pin movement is an easy way to jump start my support for their safety.  So I sought out to add a safety pin to my profile picture on Facebook. At this time there is no filter or temporary overlay being offered. So this is how I made one and thought you may want to know, too.

I did all of this from my phone. No special apps or downloads required- Yay!

First, you’ll need a safety pin image. Either one on a transparent background or one on a white background.

You can get a free safety pin image with a transparent background on pixabay. I use pixabay all the time so I’m comfortable recommending it.

I’ll take you through the steps of making a background transparent should you rather go that route, too.

How To Download A Free Safety Pin With Transparent Background Image

(Using pixabay.com because it’s free and the images are copyright free)

How To Make A Transparent Background

(Using www194.lunapic.com since I use it all the time because it doesn’t require you download anything)

Now that we have a safety pin image with a transparent background through the steps above or because we’very downloaded one with a transparent background already, let’s put in on a picture we want to use as our profile picture.

(These steps will look different from phone to phone. I’m using a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge)

How I Decorate My Cube Organizer

September 8, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

This past week, I’ve completely turned my living room upside down. Literally…

main-thrift-score-thursday-image

Kidding! Of course ?

But I have completely rearranged and reworked the space. And I friggin’ love it! The whole two zone thing is perfect for our long living room.

Processed with VSCO

The sofa and my son’s cube organizer are what separates the spaces. Let’s see how I’ve decorated the dual purpose toy storage/sofa table piece!

On the right, I have the perfume tray that belonged to my great grandmother. Inside it my thrifted basket planter as well as a few decorative pieces rest.

And then beside that, I have the planter I thrifted at Goodwill and the plant that came free with a Craigslist purchase. Within the stacks of books, there are several thrifted ones! Do-It-Yourself, Victorian dream homes, how to hang loose in an uptight world, and macrame are the thrifted books here. And the glass withave green and gold detail is also thrifted.

Wanna Play? Here’s The Rules!

  • We want you to participate! Hit up your local thrift stores, craigslist, yard sales, estate sales, side of the road, anything! Thrifty doesn’t necessarily mean from a thrift store. We want to see your good deals, wacky finds and treasures.
  • Don’t feel like you need to save those finds for Thursdays! Yes, features are shared on our blogs and Instagram on Thursdays, but we’re all checking in on (and using!) the hashtag all week long. So, when you see/find it, feel free to share it!
  • Want to get featured? Add the #thriftscorethursdsay hashtag, Follow the hosts (@the_gathered_home, @primitiveandproper, @adesignerathome and @maggieoverbystudios) and tag a friend to play along, too!
  • Each week, Cassie from Primitive and Proper, Brynne from The Gathered Home, Maggie fromMaggie Overby Studios and Myself (A Designer At Home) will pick a favorite thrift score or two to feature! So please note that by linking up with #thriftscorethursday, you are giving us permission to share your finds via social media or on our blogs.

The best part? There are 4 regular posts to check out every Thursday! Yup, you’ve got more thrift scores to look at. I know you’re not disappointed. Ha. Click on my beautiful cohost’s faces below to check out what they’ve scored and featured.

Fresh Rustic Bohemian Living Room Design for $1000

September 5, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Bohemian spaces can have such a neat vibe to them when they utilize rustic elements. Sometimes picking up on farmhouse elements and taking cues from the outdoors, fresh rustic bohemian is perfect for the texture lover. Instead of utilizing color to play up a space, textures are used with this particular subset of bohemian. Lets explore how we can apply this style to a budget living room design using one of my favorite sofas under $500?

Autumn Bucket List (Things to do in Fall)

Starting LDN and everything else I’ve tried for CFS so far…

I’ve been taking low dose naltrexone (ldn) for just over a month at this point and I wanted to share an update on how it’s been going thus far. I started taking ldn because I tried everything else in an attempt to feel better. At my last PCP appointment, I told him I’d be trying […]

Checkerboard: The Latest Insta-Trend

You ever first see a trend and think, “nope, not for me.” That was, and still a little, me with the checkerboard trend. I’ve never liked checkerboard walls or floors. At least not enough to semi-permanently put it somewhere in my home. But I am still in pursuit of an interior design certificate and job […]

AAPI Skincare & Beauty Haul & Demo (dry skin, fragrance sensitive)

As my mental health has improved, I’ve enjoyed getting back into my mindfulness consumerism series. I needed face wash, serum, and oil. For […]

Simple Minty Eye Makeup Look (Indigenous Beauty Brands)

As much as I loathe dealing with fallout atop base makeup, I still always start with base makeup. But lucky for me, there’s no powder products going on my eyes today. Despite being a simpler makeup look, there’s still a lot of drama going on. A sharp cat eye winged liner elevates the eyes. And […]

Full Face Latinx Brands

From September 15 – October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month. During this time I wanted to put together a full face of Hispanic owned beauty brands. Some of these brands are well known and others are smaller brands. I tried to find a balance of big name beauty brands and up and coming. After testing […]

Here’s My Faves for Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is upon us! It’s always my goal to be mindful of where I’m spending my money. During Heritage and Pride months, I try to make an effort to seek out brands that I may not otherwise be aware of. It’s no surprise, what’s out there is truly amazing. And I want to […]
