Shelf Styling: with vintage and thrifted decor

March 10, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

I’ve been doing a lot of rearranging of the shelves in my living room lately and I realize there’s a couple pieces I haven’t mentioned for #thriftscorethursday yet. So I thought I’d share an updated look at those rustic industrial shelves and what new finds don them.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BCQjl8YKcpF/

Starting from the top shelf, the thrifted piece that I’ve never shared before is the fat brown vase. I bought it years ago from a thrift store and it had been sitting in my dark china cabinet for too long. Here the bottle gets to sit out with some of my other brown glass bottles- I collect them!

The second shelf holds another thrift score that I hadn’t yet found a great place to share it for #thriftscorethursday. My black metal globe. This cute little thing was $2 at the tiny thrift shop near my house. I’ve never seen anything like it before so I had to have it and save it for the right spot. On this shelf it works perfectly alongside all of my other eclectic treasures.

And the bottom shelf holds my final find for this week. The brown vase has a native american look to it. I’m not sure how to tell real pottery from fake pottery but I like it. And I enjoy global decor so hopefully it looks good enough to fit.

I’ve been on an art kick lately so I had to include the Native American head. And then look at that beautifully retro space! Love the stacking foot rests. Those are too cool! And then there’s a pink ukulele. It’s my pink ukulele’s twin!

A $20 Dresser Buffet

March 3, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

thrift score thursday11

I like using interesting dressers for a lot of things. Dressers make great dressers, but they also make great media cabinets, console tables, and buffets. For my dining room makeover I wanted to find an interesting dresser to use as extra storage much like I would use a traditional buffet in this space.

I needed something long to place all of my plants. And with drawers to hide crafting supplies for my boy. And it had to have some kind of interesting detail. It had to, of course.

As I would in any search for furniture, I spent some time checking craigslist and lo and behold, exactly what I needed for a price I needed popped up. If you checked in for Monday’s post about my window treatments you already got a look at this piece. I finally had cleared out enough space to photograph it properly so here it is for thrift score thursday!

The 100th #ThriftScoreThursday!

February 25, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Hello and welcome! Today is the 100th #ThriftScoreThursday. I am pretty stoked because this hashtag party fosters such a fun community of epic thrifters, watchers and everyone in between. I love that!

I went through to the beginning of the more than 7,000 entries to pick out the top 10 favorites of mine in 20 categories. Have you ever had to narrow 7,000 of something awesome to just 20?! Oh man was this the hardest thing I’ve ever judged. I wish I had a prize for every single one of you. But since I thrift for both aesthetic and financial reasons, I had to settle for teaming up with the other fab hosts to give away $100 paypal cash. Be sure to keep an eye on Instagram today because we’ll be announcing all the details there. Instagram: @adesignerathome

My long standing obsession with the Peacock Wicker Chair

February 18, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Welcome to the post I’m dedicating to my long standing obsession with the peacock wicker chair. Also called a “fan back” wicker chair. These chairs are gorgeous, woven, sculptural pieces of heaven. I have bought and sold a ridiculous number of them and I’ve bought, and held on to, one more.

The ones I’ve bought in the past have been a bit faded, or had some structural issues. The most recent one, that I actually bought a few months ago, has been the cheapest one. And it’s in fantastic condition. No odd bends, no loose wicker- and it came with the cushion. Hallelujah!

So in honor of sharing my woven chair goodness, I thought it would be fitting to curate a favorites of things that are chairs and/or woven. While it might now make the internet explode, there will be lots of heart eyes!

Little Thrifted Decor Pieces

February 11, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Hello There 🙂

It’s another Thursday, which means I’m checking in again to spread the word of thrifted goodies of mine and others. Lately things have been a little smaller than usual. I haven’t really been on the hunt for anything big because we’ve already scored a lot of the furniture we need. But I do have a lot of fun moving my existing decor around and adding to it so I’ve still been popping in here and there.

I don’t think I’ve shared very many updated pictures of our home. Our bedroom tour and living room tour are both outdated :/ Good news is that today will have a little blog update on some of the spaces I haven’t shared recently since those spaces have a few new treasures to show off. If you’re already following me on Instagram, you’ll recognize these pics @adesignerathome

We did a totally flip of our living room. The TV and couch have flipped walls. On either side of the sofa, I have larger end tables that I’ve finally figured out the styling for. One side has been perfect for ages, but this side just got a little facelift with my great grandma’s perfume tray, a thrifted glass that I’m using as a votive, and the brown bottle I saved from the trash at work (I’m a pharmacy technician by day).

12599003_1019893308033240_1491033149_n

The kitchen has slowly been getting some attention. The pass-through has been cleaned up some and now houses the oh-so-faithfully-living philodendron alongside my newest thrifting obsession- glass salt and pepper shakers. The one on the far left I burn incense sticks out of (that’s not dirt you see there, haha, that’s incense ash). The other three just bounce around the evening light beautifully. The little brass container is really pretty, but it doesn’t close. I still find it a thrift score for the 75 cents that it was.

12628004_1558600557792591_1818052055_n

We’ve also been slowly working on the dining room which is on the other side of this pass-through. On the other side is the unmistakeable cross pattern of a peacock chair. If I can get a good picture of it this weekend, I’ll share it next week. I got it for the best deal I’ve found for one of these chairs and it’s in beautiful condition.

There were a lot of beautiful scores shared in the #thriftscorethursday feed this past week. I noticed a lot of chinoiserie popping up. I really enjoyed seeing a sort of “theme” forming. Of the many scores shared, these 4 were my (very hard to choose) favorites. I’ll be featuring them on Instagram throughout the day, but you can also click the images to visit the post 😉

Thrifted Hallway Decor

February 4, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

You can definitely tell the weather has warmed up for some because the thrift scores are exploding right now! At least that’s what the #thriftscorethursday feed is telling me. You guys are seriously rocking the thrift finds, I’m so jealous! For the most part the weather has been too cold for me to get out and do much thrifting (yet today is GORGEOUS and I’m stuck at work as I type this). Since I’m sure I haven’t shared all the thrift finds that went into my hallway makeover, I figured I’d go ahead and share those specific pieces here and then urge you to go check out the whole reveal- Vintage Boho Hallway Space Refresh.

The basket holds my favorite healing gems for depression and positive energy, I have a little bit of gypsy spirit in me.

And now #thriftscorethursday would be complete without giving you guys shout outs for thrifting. Saving items from landfills and jazzing up interiors? That’s a super win in my book. Here are my favorites from the feed this past week (my favorites also get shared on my Instagram @adesignerathome):
