Hobnail milk glass lamp and perforated lampshade

June 16, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Hey There!

While I’m definitely one to “ooh” and “aah” down the aisles at Target and West Elm, there’s something refreshing about looking at a space and being unable to completely replicate it. I’ve grown more and more to love this style so as I redecorated bits and pieces of my bedroom, thrifted lighting came in.

The first piece was the ceiling light. The short story of this light is Brynne found it and being the awesome person that she is, shipped it to me upon my request. It’s perfect in every way imaginable.

The next piece that came in is the hobnail milk glass and wood table lamp. I found it at the Goodwill (I freaking love that place! Didn’t know I had one so close until recently) for $5 and the size is perfect and I enjoy the unique look.

And the last piece I brought into the space is this perforated lamp shade. I just picked it up last weekend. I’d seen these before online but never in person. It’s so pretty and girly. The contrast with the sleek modern lamp is a treat.

Now that I’ve shared my recent thrift scores, here are my favorites from the feed:

My thrifted teal fireplace mantle

June 9, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

thrift score thursday12

Hey there! How about we chat thrifty faux fireplaces and other swanky second hand items today, yeah? If you’ve been by the blog of Instagram this past week, you’ll have seen my “new” colorful fake fireplace set up in my dining room. I’ve always obsessed over the architectural detail and have been looking for a mantle and surround for years. It just so happened the weekend before I shared my living room and dining room in the Blogger Stylin’ Home Tours, I found a perfect one!

We got it home the day before my son’s 4th birthday party. And then I painted it up until minutes before guests arrived Saturday. And we got it attached to the wall Sunday. I work under pressure, y’all.

wp-1465188793131.jpg

On the fireplace mantle I am using my collection of thrifted brass candlesticks and my eBay found cactus candles. The plant is in a thrifted basket. The brass planter is from Goodwill and the fringe plant stand I found through Craigslist and added the fringe. The wooden piece between the plants was passed down to me, it belonged to my great grandmother. The art (Hobson Sconce) and lamps (Hobson Sconce) are the only items that weren’t second hand.

What do you think?

Thrifted Bohemian Windchimes

June 2, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

thrift score thursday12

Hey there, hello! For today’s Thrift Score Thursday, I want to chat with you a little bit about windchimes. How they’re kinda expensive and it’s hard to find really boho ones. Really, all wind chimes are perfect for boho (and most are fab for feng shui), but I really love the styles and textiles of Asia, the Middle East and India (I’m terrible at geography, so I may be mis-mentioning those).

I’m working on bring better positive vibes in my house. I’ve always been interested in feng shui and I try to practice and implement things as necessary. So I did a bit of research on how I can use windchimes to help bring those positive vibes in. I came across Red Lotus Letter and found lots of helpful guidelines for doing that. If you kinda dig feng shui and/or are interested in how windchimes can be used, here’s the windchimes and feng shui article.

I don’t need to increase water or earth elements in my spaces because I live so close to the ocean and I use a lot of wood. So my material of choice was metal. I have one of them hanging on a south wall, which is meant to bring fame and recognition (blog famous? nahhhh…), it’s not necessarily where I need the extra boost in life but I am excited about the positive boost in the space we spend the most time in. Metal WIndchime for front yard positive vibes feng shui

Moroccan inspired lantern and indian elephant windchime for good feng shui

The other chime is hanging on our front porch to help shield the front door from negative energies and make entering the home a positive experience. Feng shui stuff is kinda cool 😉

And now that I’ve likely bored you to death with feng shui talk, let’s peruse the feed! (don’t forget to give me a follow while you’re there @adesignerathome)

How To Decorate Around A TV With Thrift Store Decor

May 26, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Hey there and welcome to today’s Thrift Score Thursday aka How I decorated around my TV with thrifted finds. It’s basically the same story whenever I decorate anything. I see a challenge in the space, I shop at the thrift store until I find things that fit. I keep shopping until I find even more good stuff. And then I find an arrangement with decent texture, sort of symmetry, and complimentary colors for the space.

Processed with VSCO

Processed with VSCO

The formula I used for the spaces beside my TV is:

Larger picture/art + Oval Basket with cross detail + Smaller picture/art + Round Basket + Sconce

I definitely try to urge everyone to embrace the basket. It’s quite possibly the most useful thing in the entire world. Just kidding, it’s not really that serious. But they do look so good in every space.

I think I’ve managed to share everything except for the round baskets up until this point. In case you’ve missed it, here’s what’s on the wall from left to right.

Custom Frame Family Portrait (minted), Aztec turquoise wall clock (Etsy), Oval basket with diamond woven detail, Newish round basket, Sconce with cactus candle, TV, Sconce with cactus candle, Oval basket with cross woven detail, Bubba’s 1st Birthday picture (in frame that came with the hubby), Round basket and Kilim print.

Now let’s dive into some fun. Here are my picks from the #thriftscorethursday feed on Instagram:

Vintage Eclectic Dining Room Decorating

May 19, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

thrift score thursday12

Hello, hello! Today I want to chat a little bit about how I’ve begun decorating the table in our vintage eclectic dining room. You know I got the table and chairs just a few weeks ago in a bundle with a china cabinet. When my husband was in town he and the neighbor lugged the table into the house for me. The difference in weight of a particle board and solid wood table is a lot! There was some damage to one of the joints for the legs so I handled that and wiped it down. Then, the fun part, I had some fun decorating the top!

Naturally, I gravitated towards using my brass candlesticks and my favorite tapered candles of all time.

eclectic wooden table runner and decor

Also sprinkled in are a few Lepidolite stones and 2 brass thingys. I’m not sure what they are exactly. But they’re a pair and have a really pretty punched metal pattern. I just had to buy them when I saw them and I think they look pretty good here.

Honestly, the candles will make their way onto the mantle (coming soon!) soon. It’s not practical with my little guy having them this accessible, but I’m enjoying them while they’re here.

the look of fancy wood work without the power tools

And that’s about all I have to share today for my own finds. I’ve been spending my new found free time catching up on cleaning and some other chores that aren’t really blog material so the sharing is a minimal right now.

Here’s some of my favorites from the feed:

I always love a good unicorn sighting in the feed.

Cute Little Boho Containers

May 5, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

YOU GUYS! There’s more than 10,000 entries for the thrift score thursday tag on Instagram– that’s incredible! What an incredible community, you all seriously rock so hard.

If you’re keeping up with the other things happening here on the blog, you’ll know I finally found a dining room table- yayyyy! But since I don’t want to beat a dead horse to death, you can pop in on this post to check out the story, details and a little snippet of what it looks like.

I’ve also recently scored some cute containers. Maybe for jewelry? I’m not sure what they’re for but they’ve got a really cool gypsy vibe about them and I love the whimsical detail to them. I figure I’ll leave them out on tables as a conversation piece.

There’s nothing I don’t like about this shot, but that cabinet steals the show. What a unique and fabulous piece!
