What’s On My Fireplace Mantle?

August 18, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Blue Fireplace Mantle with plants and warm golden tones

Welcome back to another week of Thrift Score Thursday! This week I’m sharing “What’s On My” fireplace edition.

My fireplace is an old wooden piece I bought through Craigslist and painted “Teal Motif.” I love the funky punch of color it adds to this space.

On it, I have a collection of decor that I’ve thrifted over time. It’s almost a transitional decorated mantle. Not quite fall, but headed in that direction.

Pathos in a pot from my mom. Moroccan style gold sphere. Tall wooden vase.

What’s On My Dresser?

August 11, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Are you ready for another edition of “What’s On My?” With ups and downs of thrifting and often times forgetting what I’ve thrifted, this has turned into a really fun way of showing you what I’ve thrifted and how I’m using it. Today I’m taking you into my bedroom to share what I’m using to decorate my dresser. The piece itself is a vintage mid century 9 drawer dresser with the original very danish modern mirror.

Processed with VSCO

The dresser wasn’t a deal of the century, but I got it for a good price and absolutely love the beautiful construction. Starting from the left, I have a basket whose weave looks very cool and geometric. In it I have a beloved pothos and I’m training it to grow along the mirror.

Beside that is a trunk I use for bathing suits. I’ve had this thing for more than 10 years and I think I bought it at Walmart but I’m not certain.

Processed with VSCO

Leaning on the trunk is the pink ukulele I bought on eBay. One night I couldn’t fall asleep until I had a ukulele and I have loved this piece so much ever since.

In front of the ukulele are candle votives I picked up at the dollar tree. I try my best to shop fair trade, made in USA or second hand but I’m quite happy with the impact $5 made here.

Then there’s the picture of my boy and I, a catch all dish from Target’s Nate Berkus line and the wood and hobnail milkglass lamp with one of my favorite scarves draped over it for ambiance.

What do you think? I tried to balance minimalism with my maximalism tendencies.

Whats on my vintage lane credenza

July 28, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

What does a rattan tray, campaign style coaster set, soda crate, doll size peacock chair and wooden puzzle have in common?

They’re all on my vintage Lane credenza!

Bohemian decorated vintage lane credenza

Can I be honest for a minute? Sometimes I thrift a lot, sometimes I don’t thrift much at all. My mood and funds play a big part in those swings.

I don’t always share what I pick up as soon as I buy it because I forget/want to style it/have something else I want to share and don’t want to overwhelm an entire post. And then I forget what I have and have not shared.

#oops

So for the next few weeks while I’m on a “no spend” (nope, that’s not me crying. Just cutting onions ?) I’ll take you around different areas of my home and go over everything I thrifted in that vignette/wall/furniture decorating.

Let’s snoop about the surface of my vintage Lane dresser then shall we?

Doll sized wicker peacock chair, bone inlay inspired frame, agate slice collection on soda crate, wooden puzzle

(Yes, a basket fell off my wall and I didn’t pick it up ?)

Of course there’s my peacock on peacock on peacock set up with the thrifted doll sized peacock chair with the peacock feather with the peacock clip.

Soda crate with rock and agate collection and a wooden puzzle

And in the middle of the credenza/media cabinet, I have my soda crate with agate, crystal and stone collection. And a wooden puzzle I picked up recently at Goodwill. This puzzle ended up being harder than it looked, but I still play around with it for a challenge.

Rattan tray with campaign style coaster set

And on the far right I’ve moved the rattan tray up here and it keeps the little target vase I picked up on clearance that I use for incense, an apothecary jar for the ugliest, and candle, my box of nag champa, and a box of coasters with a campaign style look.

Before we jump into my feautures for this week, I want to share that we have a guest host posting with us today. So check out their blog post by clicking on her face below and then check her out on Instagram and everything, too.

My Book Reading Corner: Rattan Lounger

July 21, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

A little space in my home that I’ve been doing a tiny bit of work on is a “reading” corner. Ir’s in the dining room and it’s part of the wall I mentioned being a mud room kind of space a while back. I have the piece that is acting as a hideaway office of sorts. To the left of it I have baskets a coat rack and a mess of other things as this space is still coming together. On the other side I didn’t have any ideas.

Until I came across this unique rattan lounger. It’s petite in size, but the really neat part is the foot rest that slides in and out of the bottom. So it goes from cute rattan armchair to relaxing lounger.

Vintage rattan lounger

Vintage rattan lounger

I’m hoping to put shelves on this wall soon for books to help it function better as a reading corner. I recently put up these clipboards I picked up ages ago from the dollar store. I’ve got artwork created by my son and myself up here so he has a place to display his hobbies, too.

And I had to add the globe. I’m far from someone you’d see having a house with a library so I thought it’d be a bit comical and fun to put the globe here.

You know what else is fun? FEATURES 🙂

There’s a common thread with all these picks this week. I spotted something in each of these pictures that I also own. I started to notice the theme going through all the submissions so I had to go with it 😉

Vintage Interior Design Books More Relevant Than Ever

July 7, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Processed with VSCO

If you’re an interior design enthusiast like myself, you probably love to learn about past and present trends. I’ve spent a small fortune on a variety of books from actual interior design studies books to those written by my favorite designers. But holy cow, I’ve found a mecca!

In a recent trip to the thrift store, I found some books that are so helpful. And the images are wildly accurate for the current design trends. If there’s ever been anything more reaffirming of this, it’s seeing spaces that I could swear I’ve seen in my Instagram feed on pages with olddddd computers and TVs.

IMG_20160624_093656

Here are some I definitely recommend you look for and read now that I’ve picked them up and fallen in love:

Antiques In Interior Design

The Not So Big House

Family Circle Do-It-Yourself Encyclopedia 1

A Practical Guide to Interior Design Planning A Home

And some other equally entertaining books I picked up:

Reader’s Digest Hints and Tips To Make Life Easier

Macrame Creative Design In Knotting

Victorian Dream Homes from Home Planners

The Art Of Hanging Loose in an Uptight World

To be completely honest, I haven’t picked up a book outside of my bible for at least a year. It’s been a fun trip down memory lane since I used to love books. I think it’s an obsession that may be returning. 😉

Now that you have a list of potential reading material, lets browse some of my favorite thrift scores from #thriftscorethursday:

Thrift Shopping For Color

June 30, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

I had noticed somewhat recently that I was getting bored with my thrifting routine. Scarves, baskets and brass thingies were and are all really awesome finds. But I guess I had started getting successful enough at it that it wasn’t feeling like the thrifting challenge I loved.

So I decided on going into my next thrifting adventures with a different mindset. The mindset being that I want to focus on the color scheme of my house in order to get me to branch out to some pieces I may not ordinarily gravitate towards. This has actually already paid off in a great stack of interesting books and a pretty vase.

I did also find a pretty scarf that I’m using as a table runner but I’m also using my dining table as a desk and…
