A Mid Century China Cabinet I Don’t Need & Too Much Work Left

May 4, 2016 by CORINNA HENDERSON

Today is the final check in before the reveal of our spaces for the 6 week One Room Challenge. Just to refresh, I’ve chosen to makeover my dining room. The theme for the space is Vintage Eclectic with strong boho vibes. I’ve split the space into 2 main spaces and 4 main functions. Dining and Mudroom are the two main spaces. The backdoor is off this room and we have a parking pad out back. So we go in and out this door an awful lot and it makes sense to designate jacket, bag and shoe drop off and storage here. The 4 main functions of the space are getting in and out the door, eating, crafting and blog work.

Our home is 1,200 square feet and there just isn’t the space to have a separate crafting and working spaces. We all enjoy being right on top of each other while we do different activities so that works out just dandy for us!

We made and cancelled plans for wainscotting. Found and lost a dining set. Fell behind on painting and fireplace plans due to a stomach bug. And I’ve shopped.

Yesterday the Craigslist Gods finally parted the heavy rains on me and I found a dining set! $200 was more than I wanted to spend right now, but it came with the table, 5 chairs (including 1 captains chair) and a china cabinet. I quite like the china cabinet I have so I may resell this one. Even though I like the color and style a lot. It’s a tough call! Mine has open shelves and cabinet, this one is all glass cabinet. Whenever I figure this out I’ll resell the one I won’t keep.

Late Night Chair Arranging- Couldn’t Lift the Table Alone!

Basically, I have all of the pieces to make this happen. But, I need to squeeze out the time to get it all together! I still have the next week and a half to finish up at my day job and hubby has started with a new job and won’t be home much the next couple of weeks. Life threw quite a bit at us this past month. I wouldn’t have thought any of this would happen!

In the next few days I’d really like to:

  1. Install the new pendant light
  2. Resize fireplace mantle
  3. Hang art and lights above fireplace mantle
  4. Finish getting the junk out of this space
  5. Finish Painting walls

And what I’d like to get done in the next month:

  1. Put up wallpaper
  2. Add some new trim (saving the fun job for another time)
  3. Refinish the table and chairs

This should get interesting! Follow along with the project: Sign Up For The Newsletter

Awesome set!! You gotta do what you gotta do when they won’t separate the set just to get to the table sometimes. I have quite a few odds and ends of dining and bedroom sets piling up in my storage unit because I only wanted one piece.

It’s an amazing set! I absolutely love the shape of those chairs!!! I bet Restor-A-Finish would work miracles on that tabletop! I mean, at this point, I should really just get a Restor-A-Finish tattoo and accept my role as their incessant [unpaid] advertiser 😉

Corinna what a fabulous set. I can’t wait for the reveal! I love the direction the space is going in. As a fellow ORC participant it’s been wonderful to gather some fantastic inspiration. I’d love for you to share your progress at Thoughts of Home on Thursday. Our readers would love to see it. The gathering is at http://www.decortoadore.net

Autumn Bucket List (Things to do in Fall)

I can feel it coming in the air tonight… Autumn is nearly here! What a joy. I start to feel the excitement when the faint hint of crispness hits the air. Fall is my favorite season. There are so many great things to do in Fall. Somehow I always miss doing activities so this year […]

Starting LDN and everything else I’ve tried for CFS so far…

I’ve been taking low dose naltrexone (ldn) for just over a month at this point and I wanted to share an update on how it’s been going thus far. I started taking ldn because I tried everything else in an attempt to feel better. At my last PCP appointment, I told him I’d be trying […]

Checkerboard: The Latest Insta-Trend

You ever first see a trend and think, “nope, not for me.” That was, and still a little, me with the checkerboard trend. I’ve never liked checkerboard walls or floors. At least not enough to semi-permanently put it somewhere in my home. But I am still in pursuit of an interior design certificate and job […]

My best Amazon Prime Purchases Ever

I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that it’s time for Amazon’s annual Prime day. And you likely don’t need me to tell you about my best Amazon Prime purchases ever. But I’m telling you, these are such good products and I got them for a steal too!

Celebrating Pride Month With LGBT Businesses

Part of mindful consumerism, for me at least, is intentionally seeking out companies founded and owned by marginalized communities. Heritage and pride months are the perfect reminder to seek out alternative sources for goods and services. Join me in celebrating pride month with LGBT businesses below.

AAPI Skincare & Beauty Haul & Demo (dry skin, fragrance sensitive)

As my mental health has improved, I’ve enjoyed getting back into my mindfulness consumerism series. With AAPI month upon us, and quickly coming to an end, I took stock of what I needed to purchase and set out to buy replacements from AAPI skincare and beauty brands. I needed face wash, serum, and oil. For […]

Simple Minty Eye Makeup Look (Indigenous Beauty Brands)

As much as I loathe dealing with fallout atop base makeup, I still always start with base makeup. But lucky for me, there’s no powder products going on my eyes today. Despite being a simpler makeup look, there’s still a lot of drama going on. A sharp cat eye winged liner elevates the eyes. And […]

Indigenous Owned Shopping Faves

You’re shopping. Here’s everything you need to be shopping for from indigenous owned brands. From beauty to fashion to accessories and body care, these products are top tier. These may be my indigenous owned shopping faves, but they’re quality from design to ingredients to workmanship.

Full Face Latinx Brands

From September 15 – October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month. During this time I wanted to put together a full face of Hispanic owned beauty brands. Some of these brands are well known and others are smaller brands. I tried to find a balance of big name beauty brands and up and coming. After testing […]

Here’s My Faves for Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is upon us! It’s always my goal to be mindful of where I’m spending my money. During Heritage and Pride months, I try to make an effort to seek out brands that I may not otherwise be aware of. It’s no surprise, what’s out there is truly amazing. And I want to […]

The Year of 25 Projects

For the past few years, I’ve wanted to start the year with a list of home projects. These are projects I want to accomplish in the upcoming year. Honoring Indigenous People for Heritage Month

I am sitting here, stuck, trying to come up with the best way to honor Indigenous People for this year’s Native American Heritage Month. While not indigenous myself, I do live on their land and benefit from work they’ve done. I want to give back communities that I admire and respect. Therefore, I want to […]

Is it safe to buy makeup on Poshmark?

You probably know that you can buy clothing and accessories on Poshmark, but did you know you could buy makeup, too? I was skeptical when I first came across this. Is it safe to buy makeup on Poshmark? I had to know. So, I placed several orders, with several different sellers, and I’ve had a […]
